Vaathi Movie Review

Vaathi, written and directed by Venky Atluri, is an action drama that revolves around the life of Bala Murugan, a school teacher who finds himself caught up in business politics in the education sector. The film stars Dhanush, Samuthirakani, and Samuyktha Menon in the lead roles and is produced by Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, distributed by Seven Screen Studios in Tamil Nadu.

Dhanush, known for his versatile acting skills, plays the role of a school teacher with ease and adds charm to the film with his quirky behavior. Samyuktha Menon shines along with Dhanush despite her limited screen presence, and Samuthirakani, playing his usual template, delivers different dialogues in this film. Other characters also justify their roles.

The songs of GV Prakash hit the right chords, providing delight to the situations, but their placement is sometimes an issue. The background score elevates the mood for the most part, but at other times, it distracts the audience.

The film's message is its biggest positive, as it is relatable to many people. Most of the scenes are simple and conventional, which widens its reach among the audience. The romantic angle is short and woven into the storyline, and it does not loosen the grip of the screenplay. Dhanush once again playing an underdog role does wonders for the script, as the sequence of him leaving the village touches the audience through its genuine moments.

However, the film becomes over-ambitious in its content, and the dialogues fall out of place, reducing the grit of the story. The engaging factor in the first half is considerably less than in the packed second half. The single-dimensionally sketched characters do not help the cause of the film. Although the film justifies its Telugu flavor with the geography, it is far-stretched in convincing the audience.

Overall, Vaathi tries to sell its message with conventionally accepted tropes that succeed in most parts. The runtime and simplicity of the script help the engagement, but the film falls short in some areas. Nevertheless, it is worth a watch for Dhanush's performance and the relatable message.
