Thugs Tamil Movie Review

Thugs (Kumari Mavattathin Thugs) is a Tamil crime action drama directed by Brindha, which tells the story of Hridhu Haroon, a man accused of stealing money from his owner to go to Australia. He is sent to Nagercoil Central Jail where he befriends Bobby Simha, and together they plan to escape from the prison with the help of a few other inmates.

The film, produced by Riya Shibu under the banner HR pictures in association with Jio Cinemas, is a remake of a Malayalam movie and stays true to its genre. The script is realistic, and the performances by the cast hold the narrative together. Hridhu, played by debutant Hridhu Haroon, is convincing as a man who is a mixture of innocence and mastery, while Bobby Simha shines in his underplayed role. RK Suresh is menacing as the cop, and Munishkanth provides comic relief.

The technical aspects of the movie are safe in the hands of capable artists. Sam CS's thumping music elevates the tension of the film, and Priyesh Gurusamy's camera work frames what is necessary for the film. However, the film does have its flaws, with some scenes not convincingly portrayed, such as stealing the map of the jail from the jailer's room.

Despite these flaws, the film is engaging and has a racy screenplay that doesn't rely on usual gimmicks to hook the audience. The film explores the concept of jailbreak, which is difficult to pull off, and does justice to its content by not deviating from its plan to make a realistic thriller. Some of the action sequences of the movie is stand out in this movie.

However, the film dilutes the realism felt in the script with the plethora of punches and kicks delivered throughout the film. Additionally, the camaraderie between the characters is not expressed in a way that makes the audience emotionally involved with the narrative.

Overall, Thugs is a watchable well-crafted jailbreak drama. The film engages you throughout its runtime, and while it has its flaws, it is worth watching for its racy screenplay, realistic storyline, and solid performances by the cast.
